AES and Michigan Credit Union Foundation Remind Students of Scholarship Deadline
$25,000 in Scholarship Money Available to Michigan Credit Union Members
Harrisburg, PA (June 14, 2007) - American Education Services (AES) and the Michigan Credit Union Foundation (MCUF) are reminding students of the availability of the STU Scholarship Program for members of participating Michigan credit unions. The deadline for applications is June 30, 2007.
The Foundation will award scholarships to college-bound high school students or current college students who are attending or are planning to attend a Michigan university or community college during the 2007-08 academic year. The STU Scholarships are made possible by a $25,000 donation from AES to the Michigan Credit Union Foundation.
"Providing access to higher education is a guiding principle of American Education Services," said Dick Willey, President and CEO of AES. "So when students and families who are members of a Michigan credit union find themselves struggling with funding their higher education costs, we encourage them to complete a STU Scholarship application to be considered for these awards."
One recipient of a $2,500 STU Scholarship will be announced from each of the Michigan Credit Union League’s ten districts. The MCUF Advisory Committee will act as the STU Scholarship Selection Committee working with each of the District Advisory Committees (DAC). Credit unions interested in participating in the scholarship program should contact the Foundation.
Applicants must complete a STU Scholarship application and provide the following:
- Copy of university acceptance letter or proof of registration
- Copy of current high school or college transcript – 2.8 minimum GPA
- 500 word essay (single spaced)
- Record of community service activity
- Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, school counselor or current employer
"The Michigan Credit Union Foundation is very happy to have partnered with AES," said Alan Babcock, Executive Director of the Foundation. "They are a leading provider of Guaranteed Student Loans and have made a strong financial commitment to help credit union members receive the higher education they need to compete in the marketplace. I would encourage all credit unions to participate in this program and promote it to their membership."
STU Scholarship information and applications are available online at the Michigan Credit Unions’ student aid website, www.custu.org. Applicants may also call 800-262-6285 ext. 339 for information.
